I just found a helpful article about how different types of birds adjust to cold windy days, nestling in the lower limbs of trees or going behind buildings to get a break. Remember they don't have much protection when the temps drop and the wind whips through.
Check out this student post to get some ideas of where to hang your bird feeders, especially now use suet and nuts for the wintry midwest and eastern areas of the US. And if you want to watch your feeders and report your numbers to the Feeder Watch, the link is in this website, too. Enjoy, and remember to keep some water unfrozen for your bird friends.
